Brothers Mrštík Memorial
The memorial commemorates the brothers Alois (1861-1925) and Vilém (1863-1924) Mrštík. The exposition, installed in the house where the Mrštík family lived, features some of the family furnishings, as well as manuscripts and other memorabilia of the two artists, their lives, and their literary-dramatic works. It focuses especially on Alois's extensive novelistic chronicle A Year in the Village, capturing life in the Haná Plains-Moravian Slovakia around the turn of the 20th century. The work was inspired by the author's life in this village, its name changed to Hrabůvka in the book. The joint work by the two brothers - the realistic drama - Maryša - refers to the nearby village of Těšany. Thanks to the psychological vigor of this story of a forced, unhappy marriage, emphasizing social life in a Moravian village, but also thanks to the magic of South Moravian folklore, this work remains part of the repertoire of the leading Czech theaters to this day.
